Holy smokes! I’ve got a website. For the first time ever. As a 33-year-old—and I consider myself, and others too, consider me- a creative.
Here I am, world! ‘Creating Quality Content’, and nobody can tell me otherwise!
Just like ancient Greece or something... Don't mind me, just getting over my fear of getting sued
A funny sub-generation are we 33-year-olds; we have millenial sensibilities for sure, but our values are much more Gen-X, in the sense that Gen-X’ers are sort of driven by artisanal significance. I think we see our praise and enthusiasm as a scarce resource. We don’t want to just lavish it out on anything and anyONE the way these young pure millenial doofuses do. Self-promotion doesn’t come that naturally to us- doing that thing where we say ‘wow thanks for the opportunity to have (insert humblebrag)’ feels gross.
As the DJ crows, "Heyy Woow Thannks you guyys! #blessed #etc"
I can't help but long for the good ole days when rockers knew their place; to complain about how nobody in the audience owns their first album, and blatanly call out how the ones who claim they do are lying. THATS how to treat fans- but alas it was a different time.
Social media doesn’t come naturally to me personally- I believe a lot of people in my age group feel the same way. If you want to brag, have the self-respect to acquire a dope beat and spit some profanity-laced hot FYAH! And stick it to the haytaz once and for all.
I JUST BOOKED A GIG CUZ IM DOPE AND I BOOK DOPE S**T
And if you want to complain, call your best friend and ask if they’ve got a minute. And if you want to show people how healthy your lunch is- I don’t know, just, don’t.
But this is the world that we live in! Not expressing oneself on the internet, where there genuinely IS a market that’s essentially infinite, some of whom are going to be genuinely interested in who you are and what you’re interested in, is absolutely nuts!
So why would a guy like me only just begin to take action on this?
Fear, I guess. Who is it that said, “it is better to be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.” Looks like it was… maybe Lincoln.
Lincoln: Sure, bud.
Well, I’m not worried about being thought a fool per se, but, maybe, say, an a**hole- which I don’t want to be.
Anyways, stranger, maybe you’re a fellow voice actor, or talent manager, or a casting director, or a friend, or even *gasp* a fan. Thank you for being a part of helping me get over this fear, and just by reading, helping me to embrace the best that this brave new world has to offer— I wish I were doing this ten years ago, but, hey, it’s never too late to learn something, right?
